MV Agusta has revealed two adventures bikes inspired by the Dakar rally success of the Cagiva Elefant. MV Agusta's Lucky Explorer Project is "a multi-faceted initiative aiming at gathering the passionate lovers of rally raid. And off-road racing around Schiranna’s unforgettable legacy of epic participation. And victories in the great African rallies of the golden age."
Called the 9.5 and 5.5, both projects represent the modern interpretation of the 'Lucky Explorer' and are inspired by the Dakar Rally success of the Cagiva Elefant. The 9.5 is the larger of the two bikes on offer. Starting with the wheel diameter: 21” at the front and 18” at the rear, together with a 1,580 mm wheelbase, the 9.5 boasts an unprecedented off-road attitude.
The new 9.5 motorcycle uses a bored and stroked version of the 800cc three-cylinder motor found in the Brutale for 930cc, the maximum power and torque values are respectively 123 hp at 10,000 rpm and 102 Nm at 7,000 rpm. The motor will also come with the option of having a Rekluse variant clutch or a standard clutch, and an optional electro-actuated (paddle shift) gearbox. There is also a large 7″ TFT dash, from which one can control MV Agusta’s MVICS electronics system.
On the other hand, the 5.5 is developed in close collaboration with MV's Chinese partner QJ. The adventure tourer is inspired by the heritage of the Elefant. The 5.5 bike features a liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, with a 70.5mm bore and 71mm stroke.
The two new models share numerous stylistic elements: the front end area and the sturdy handguard, for example, are both painted black. A side cover protects the radiator which reveals a semicircle element in the central portion. Even the extended use of high-technology materials along with their finishing is adventure-inspired.No word yet on price and availability for either of the 5.5 or the 9.5 from MV Agusta.
